Extreme Weather Shelter
About
the ProgramProgram History How it Works About the Program
Extreme Weather Shelter (EWS) is an as-needed services coordination program designed for individuals that have no access to adequate shelter during nights when severe weather is forecast. Severe weather may be temperatures falling below 32°F, when there is sustained gale force or higher winds expected or the wind chill factor is predicted to fall to 32°F or lower, or when torrential rains are expected. The service is a partnership between North Coast Resource Center (NCRC) and the Humboldt All Faith Partnership (HAFP), and participant local churches. This service prevents overuse of medical facilities for the attendant health and/or safety problems that may be caused by exposure to extreme weather for any duration of time, such as over night.
